A circuit you can walk in full

At Aigues-Mortes the whole rampart circuit survives, and the wall walk follows it right around the town — about 1.6 kilometres. The visit begins at the governor's lodging beside the Tour de Constance, then runs along the wall-top, passing above the ten gates and the towers between them.

Towers and gates along the way

Named stops include the Tour de Constance, the Tour de Villeneuve, and gates such as the Porte de la Gardette, the Porte de la Reine and the Porte des Cordeliers — pieces of one defensive system that still reads as a single continuous structure rather than scattered fragments.

Two views, the whole way round

On the inner side, the walk looks down over the town's grid of streets and the church of Notre-Dame-des-Sablons. On the outer side, the Camargue opens out flat to the horizon, with the geometric salt pans of the Salins du Midi and the marshes beyond them.

Practical notes for the walk

The circuit involves historic stairs and uneven stone, so sturdy footwear helps, and most of it is open to the sky — bring water and sun protection in summer and expect wind on any day. Last admission is 45 minutes before closing, so leave time to finish the loop.
